Bulgaria shares land borders with Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece and Turkey — 5 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. The highest point in the country is Musala, at 2,925 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Liberia, while its population is closest to that of Turkmenistan.
