Ukraine is a country in Europe. Its capital city is Kyiv, the official currency is the Hryvnia, and the main language is Ukrainian.
With a population of roughly 36.7 million people spread over 603,500 kmยฒ, Ukraine is the 42nd most populous country in the world and the 44th largest by area. That works out at about 61 people per square kilometre.
Ukraine shares land borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Belarus and Russia โ 7 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa. The highest point in the country is Hoverla, at 2,061 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Madagascar, while its population is closest to that of Angola.
