Greece is a country in Europe. Its capital city is Athens, the official currency is the Euro, and the main language is Greek.
With a population of roughly 10.3 million people spread over 131,957 km², Greece is the 90th most populous country in the world and the 95th largest by area. That works out at about 78 people per square kilometre.
Greece shares land borders with Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey — 4 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras. The highest point in the country is Mount Olympus, at 2,917 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Nicaragua, while its population is closest to that of Papua New Guinea.
