With a population of roughly 330,000 people spread over 12,189 kmยฒ, Vanuatu is the 173rd most populous country in the world and the 157th largest by area. That works out at about 27 people per square kilometre.

Vanuatu has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Port Vila, Luganville and Norsup. The highest point in the country is Mount Tabwemasana, at 1,877 metres.

For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Qatar, while its population is closest to that of Iceland.
