Vanuatu is a country in Oceania. Its capital city is Port Vila, the official currency is the Vatu, and the main language is Bislama.
With a population of roughly 330,000 people spread over 12,189 km², Vanuatu is the 173rd most populous country in the world and the 157th largest by area. That works out at about 27 people per square kilometre.
Vanuatu has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Port Vila, Luganville and Norsup. The highest point in the country is Mount Tabwemasana, at 1,877 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Qatar, while its population is closest to that of Iceland.
