Papua New Guinea is a country in Oceania. Its capital city is Port Moresby, the official currency is the Kina, and the main language is Tok Pisin.
With a population of roughly 10.3 million people spread over 462,840 km², Papua New Guinea is the 91st most populous country in the world and the 54th largest by area. That works out at about 22 people per square kilometre.
Papua New Guinea shares land borders with Indonesia — its only land neighbour. Its largest urban centres are Port Moresby, Lae and Mount Hagen. The highest point in the country is Mount Wilhelm, at 4,509 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Sweden, while its population is closest to that of Greece.
