With a population of roughly 133,000 people spread over 811 kmยฒ, Kiribati is the 178th most populous country in the world and the 172nd largest by area. That works out at about 164 people per square kilometre.
Kiribati has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Tarawa, Betio and Bikenibeu. The highest point in the country is unnamed point on Banaba, at 81 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Bahrain, while its population is closest to that of Grenada.
