Qatar is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Doha, the official currency is the Qatari Riyal, and the main language is Arabic.
With a population of roughly 2.7 million people spread over 11,586 km², Qatar is the 140th most populous country in the world and the 158th largest by area. That works out at about 233 people per square kilometre.
Qatar shares land borders with Saudi Arabia — its only land neighbour. Its largest urban centres are Doha, Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah. The highest point in the country is Qurayn Abu al Bawl, at 103 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Gambia, while its population is closest to that of Botswana.
