Palau is a country in Oceania. Its capital city is Ngerulmud, the official currency is the United States Dollar, and the main language is Palauan.
With a population of roughly 18,000 people spread over 459 km², Palau is the 192nd most populous country in the world and the 180th largest by area. That works out at about 39 people per square kilometre.
Palau has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Koror, Ngerulmud and Airai. The highest point in the country is Mount Ngerchelchuus, at 242 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Seychelles, while its population is closest to that of Nauru.
