Bahrain is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Manama, the official currency is the Bahraini Dinar, and the main language is Arabic.
With a population of roughly 1.5 million people spread over 765 kmยฒ, Bahrain is the 150th most populous country in the world and the 173rd largest by area. That works out at about 1,961 people per square kilometre.
Bahrain has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Manama, Riffa and Muharraq. The highest point in the country is Jabal ad Dukhan, at 122 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Dominica, while its population is closest to that of Trinidad and Tobago.

Bahrain: things worth knowing
- Bahrain is an archipelago of about 50 natural islands plus dozens more created by land reclamation.
- It was the first country in the Persian Gulf to discover oil, in 1932, and the first to begin diversifying away from it.
- The King Fahd Causeway has linked it by road to Saudi Arabia since 1986.
