Azerbaijan is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Baku, the official currency is the Azerbaijani Manat, and the main language is Azerbaijani.
With a population of roughly 10.4 million people spread over 86,600 kmยฒ, Azerbaijan is the 89th most populous country in the world and the 112th largest by area. That works out at about 120 people per square kilometre.
Azerbaijan shares land borders with Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Iran and Turkey โ 5 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Baku, Ganja and Sumqayit. The highest point in the country is Bazardรผzรผ, at 4,466 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Serbia, while its population is closest to that of Czechia.
