Vietnam is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Hanoi, the official currency is the Vietnamese Dong, and the main language is Vietnamese.
With a population of roughly 98.9 million people spread over 331,212 kmยฒ, Vietnam is the 16th most populous country in the world and the 66th largest by area. That works out at about 299 people per square kilometre.
Vietnam shares land borders with China, Laos and Cambodia โ 3 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Haiphong. The highest point in the country is Fansipan, at 3,147 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Malaysia, while its population is closest to that of DR Congo.
