With a population of roughly 123.3 million people spread over 377,975 km², Japan is the 12th most populous country in the world and the 62nd largest by area. That works out at about 326 people per square kilometre.
Japan has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Tokyo, Yokohama and Osaka. The highest point in the country is Mount Fuji, at 3,776 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Norway, while its population is closest to that of Ethiopia.
