Myanmar is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Naypyidaw, the official currency is the Burmese Kyat, and the main language is Burmese.
With a population of roughly 54.6 million people spread over 676,578 km², Myanmar is the 27th most populous country in the world and the 39th largest by area. That works out at about 81 people per square kilometre.
Myanmar shares land borders with Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand — 5 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw. The highest point in the country is Hkakabo Razi, at 5,881 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Afghanistan, while its population is closest to that of Kenya.
