Uzbekistan is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Tashkent, the official currency is the Uzbekistani Som, and the main language is Uzbek.
With a population of roughly 35.6 million people spread over 447,400 km², Uzbekistan is the 43rd most populous country in the world and the 56th largest by area. That works out at about 80 people per square kilometre.
Uzbekistan shares land borders with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan — 5 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Tashkent, Namangan and Samarkand. The highest point in the country is Khazret Sultan, at 4,643 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Morocco, while its population is closest to that of Angola.
