Yemen is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Sanaa, the official currency is the Yemeni Rial, and the main language is Arabic.

With a population of roughly 34.4 million people spread over 527,968 kmยฒ, Yemen is the 44th most populous country in the world and the 49th largest by area. That works out at about 65 people per square kilometre.

Yemen shares land borders with Saudi Arabia and Oman โ€” 2 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Sanaa, Aden and Taiz. The highest point in the country is Jabal An-Nabi Shu'ayb, at 3,666 metres.

For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Thailand, while its population is closest to that of Peru.
