Timor-Leste is a country in Asia. Its capital city is Dili, the official currency is the United States Dollar, and the main language is Tetum.
With a population of roughly 1.4 million people spread over 14,874 km², Timor-Leste is the 152nd most populous country in the world and the 154th largest by area. That works out at about 94 people per square kilometre.
Timor-Leste shares land borders with Indonesia — its only land neighbour. Its largest urban centres are Dili, Baucau and Maliana. The highest point in the country is Tatamailau, at 2,986 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Bahamas, while its population is closest to that of Mauritius.
