Bahamas is a country in North America. Its capital city is Nassau, the official currency is the Bahamian Dollar, and the main language is English.
With a population of roughly 410,000 people spread over 13,943 km², Bahamas is the 170th most populous country in the world and the 155th largest by area. That works out at about 29 people per square kilometre.
Bahamas has no land borders with any other country. Its largest urban centres are Nassau, Freeport and West End. The highest point in the country is Mount Alvernia, at 63 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Montenegro, while its population is closest to that of Belize.
