Gambia is a country in Africa. Its capital city is Banjul, the official currency is the Dalasi, and the main language is English.
With a population of roughly 2.8 million people spread over 11,295 km², Gambia is the 135th most populous country in the world and the 159th largest by area. That works out at about 248 people per square kilometre.
Gambia shares land borders with Senegal — its only land neighbour. Its largest urban centres are Serekunda, Brikama and Banjul. The highest point in the country is Red Rock, at 53 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Qatar, while its population is closest to that of Armenia.
