Sudan is a country in Africa. Its capital city is Khartoum, the official currency is the Sudanese Pound, and the main language is Arabic.
With a population of roughly 48.1 million people spread over 1,861,484 km², Sudan is the 31st most populous country in the world and the 15th largest by area. That works out at about 26 people per square kilometre.
Sudan shares land borders with Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Chad and Libya — 7 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Khartoum, Omdurman and Port Sudan. The highest point in the country is Deriba Caldera, at 3,042 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Indonesia, while its population is closest to that of Uganda.
