Guatemala is a country in North America. Its capital city is Guatemala City, the official currency is the Quetzal, and the main language is Spanish.
With a population of roughly 18.1 million people spread over 108,889 km², Guatemala is the 69th most populous country in the world and the 105th largest by area. That works out at about 166 people per square kilometre.
Guatemala shares land borders with Mexico, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras — 4 neighbours in all. Its largest urban centres are Guatemala City, Mixco and Villa Nueva. The highest point in the country is Volcán Tajumulco, at 4,220 metres.
For scale, it covers almost exactly the same area as Cuba, while its population is closest to that of Somalia.
