Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia until a peaceful 1993 split from the Czech Republic; Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia until it declared independence in 1991, at the start of that country's violent breakup, though Slovenia itself avoided most of the fighting that followed elsewhere in the region.
Both are small, mountainous, EU and eurozone members with a similar population size, and both jokes about diplomats and journalists sending correspondence to the wrong one are common enough that both countries' foreign ministries are used to fielding them.
