About Top Spoken Languages: Asia
Mandarin Chinese leads by a wide margin, with close to a billion native speakers — more than the next three languages on this list combined.
Hindi and Bengali follow, both concentrated in South Asia, ahead of Arabic, Punjabi and Japanese. Cantonese, Turkish and Marathi round out the bottom of the ten, all within a few million of each other.
The bottom of this list is genuinely close: Telugu, Korean, Tamil and Urdu are all within a few million speakers of the countries that made the cut, so a slightly different source could reorder the last two or three places.
