About Landlocked Countries: Europe
Fourteen of Europe's countries have no coastline — more than any other continent — and they cluster in two bands: the Alps (Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein), the old Soviet and Yugoslav interior (Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Belarus, Moldova, Serbia, North Macedonia), plus three of the world's smallest states, Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino and Vatican City.
Liechtenstein is one of only two countries on Earth that are doubly landlocked — surrounded entirely by other landlocked countries, Switzerland and Austria — so reaching the sea from Vaduz means crossing at least two borders.
Being landlocked here is no handicap: Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg are among the wealthiest countries in the world, proof that the real cost is about market access rather than coastline as such.
Scoring
Your score is how many of the 14 landlocked countries you click before you make a mistake. There is no timer and no difficulty to choose — every country in Europe is on screen from the start, and the round ends the instant you click one with a coastline.
